Sky Lucy Young

Sky Lucy Young is a textile designer whose practice bridges visual experimentation and
theoretical inquiry through an in-depth exploration of colour, materiality, and purpose.
Currently, Sky works as a Textile Design Developer for Kvadrat, responsible for developing
upholstery textiles for the Raf Simons collection, where she contributes to the
development of innovative upholstery textiles that pushes the boundaries in terms of
technicality, materiality and colours within the textile industry.
Prior to Kvadrat, she worked as a Colour and Material Designer at Jaguar Land Rover in the
United Kingdom (2019–2020), where she contributed to the development of interior
prototypes and concepts within an automotive context. This experience expanded her
understanding of material durability, tactility, and brand identity within large-scale
industrial frameworks.
Sky’s professional trajectory spans both industry and academia. From 2020 to 2021, she
served as Textile Workshop Manager and Teaching Assistant Professor at Design School
Kolding in Denmark. In this role, Sky guided the students in colour and material
experimentation within textile processes, as well as introduced digital fabrication,
supporting interdisciplinary approaches that combined textiles and emerging
technologies. Prior to this, Sky worked as a technician at Bmade, Bartlett School of
Architecture, UCL (2017 -2019), specializing in 3D printing, laser cutting, and textiles.
Sky holds a Master of Arts in Mixed Media Textiles from the Royal College of Art, London
(2019), where she developed a research-driven approach to textiles that combined
experimental processes with strong conceptual foundations. She previously completed a
Bachelor’s degree in Textiles at Design School Kolding (2016). Her educational background
also includes studies at the Antwerp Fashion Department in Belgium (2011–2012) and a
two-year diploma from the Fashion Design Academy in Denmark (2007-2009), grounding
her practice in both textile and fashion traditions.
Her work has been widely recognized through grants and awards. In 2019, she was the
winner of The Textile Society Postgraduate Award, acknowledging her innovative
contribution to contemporary textile practice. She has also received multiple grants from
the Danish Arts Foundation (2017 & 2020), including support for exhibitions and a research
trip to Japan to research the Japanese tabi culture which led to participation in a group
exhibition at A. Petersen Crafts and Collection in Copenhagen. Further, Sky’s work has
been exhibited in both within art and textile contexts, Sky has exhibited at the
Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in Copenhagen (2020), and the Textile Museum in
Herning
